town. Someone with money, opportunity, and the connections to start such activity. Someone who seemed to know the police department's moves before they made them.

That someone had been married to her.
''You son of a bitch," D.J. muttered, staring at a picture of Rich Halloran in earnest conversation with the gang member residing in the Lakeview holding cellan area off limits to the general public. How had both Rich and McCall gotten back there where they didn't belong? Heads were going to roll over this.
D.J. shook her head as questions, then answers, pounded through her brain. Had Rich been behind all the problems in Lakeview recently? She wouldn't put it past him. He had no scruples. He cared only about himself and money. He could easily learn about the activities of the Lakeview PD because he was a friend of many of the officers. Hell, someone had let him into the off-limits holding cells. Whoever that someone was would lose his job for sure once D.J. got her hands on him.
She continued to unravel the pattern while she stared at the picture in her hands. Rich had access to guns through his shopthough she wasn't sure how he worked that part of the operation, since all guns had to be registered and serialized. And all the gang connections? Had he made those during the years he'd lived in Chicago with his aunt? If so, then how had he kept them quiet for so long?
